Lu Yanshao (1909-1993), born in Jiading County, Shanghai, was one of the most significant and innovative Chinese landscape painters of the 20th century. Lu excelled at painting landscapes featuring overpowering mountains, vast expanses of water and brisk clouds.
His best-ever record was set by his painting album depicting artistic conceptions of famous Tang Dynasty (618-907) poet Du Fu's poems, which fetched US$8.37 million in 2004.
His best result in 2012 was generated by his "Zhushachong (Cinnabar Gully) Sentry in Jinggang Mountain" (96cm × 178cm), which fetched US$3.48 million at the Shanghai Chongyuan Art Aution Co.,Ltd. 2012 Autumn Auction.
