Top 7: Huang Zhou 黄胄
Auction Revenue: US$106 million
Huang Zhou (1925-1997), born in Li County, Hebei Province, was a Chinese artist and collector who made great contributions to boosting modern Chinese art. He was also known as Liang Yezi, or Miao Di.
Although total volume reached US$106 million in 2012, he only saw mediocre returns because none of his works exceeded the US$1.5 million line at the top ten auction houses. His best result in 2012 came for his 1985 painting "Xinjiang Dance" (69cm × 68.5cm), which fetched US$1.26 million at Poly International Auction Co., Ltd.
