(People's Daily/Xu Pengfei)

Firstly, some Internet slangs will make people feel bewildered in case they are taken out of the specific Internet environment and audience, and there will be a significant reduced effect even a counterproductive effect if the Internet slangs are used on wrong occasions and language environments.

Secondly, the generation of some new words and phrases has ignored the rules and principles of words formation and usage, run contrary to the basis of language expression and habits, with an apparent intention of subjective fabrication and farfetched combination.

Internet slangs often disappear as quickly as they emerge, so we should choose and use them carefully. Mainstream media, education circle and public figures play a "magnifying" role in language use, and their choice of words have a representative and symbolic meaning. Choose words that are flexible, accurate, and wise, and abandon others. Internet words should be able to reflect the true value and function of language, and promote the development of modern Chinese.
