A group of students from an elementary school in Dongxing district, Neijiang city, southwest China's Sichuan Province, recently made a field trip to a lotus root planting base in Yuhuangguan village in Dongxing district, where they had a rewarding and pleasant experience harvesting lotus roots.
After putting on waterproof pants, they walked into a large lotus pond with buckets and shovels. Before long, some students held up the fresh lotus roots they dug and shared the joy of harvesting with their peers.
"I just dug one out. And it took a lot of time and effort. The job is laborious. Now I understand how hard the work of farmers is. We should really not waste food," said a student named Liu Yidan.
