College students create illustrations to boost morale for battle against novel coronavirus

Art students in the school of art and design of Wuchang Shouyi University in Wuhan, the capital of central China’s Hubei province, recently created more than 100 sets of illustrations with themes revolving around the fight against the novel coronavirus epidemic. The works are intended to promote positive energy and enhance morale for the country’s efforts to fight the epidemic.

These illustrations were actually part of the students’ creations during their illustration design course. In an effort to contribute to the country’s nationwide efforts to combat the epidemic, students have shown in their works various knowledge about epidemic prevention and control. The works also express in differing ways praise for people from all walks of life who have stuck to their posts and bravely fought the epidemic. The fine works also convey a sense of resolve and help compel a victory over the virus.

Xiao Matian, a sophomore at Wuchang Shouyi University, created a set of memes featuring a cartoon image of needle tubing, which is covered with masks and protective clothing.

“Needle tubing is a necessity in medical services,” said Xiao, explaining that the cartoon image in the design conveys medical workers’ determination to win the battle against the epidemic.

Liu Yaxuan, a fellow student of Xiao, designed a set of memes featuring cute salted fish. The idea was from the status of netizens who have had to stay at home during the special period, according to Liu.

“In this special period, many people have to stay at home and live a life that they referred to as life of ‘a salted fish,’” said Liu, adding that while showing various states of netizens’ lives, her works also contain good wishes for the ending of the battle as soon as possible.
