On the map, Yili is located in the far reaches of northwest China. The high Mount Tianshan in Yili forms a trumpet mouth towards the west. Thus, thanks to the moisture from the Atlantic ocean, Yili has become one of the regions with the best water resources in Xinjiang and even the interior of Asia. It has become a key hub for business in the Western Regions.

It boasts the most unique city in China, the best production conditions of high-quality agricultural products in China, the largest land border port in Xinjiang, and an economic development zone with extremely preferential policies.
