Huang Quanqing has taught for 20 years in a primary school in a remote village in Yibin, southwest China's Sichuan province.

By putting all his heart into teaching, Huang was loved and respected by all villagers. Every time he passed by a student's home, enthusiast parents invited him to have a meal and offer him vegetables that they planted in the fields. "We respect Huang, because he is so nice to children," a villager said.

Huang was diagnosed with cirrhosis seven years ago. Doctors and his family told him to receive treatment immediately. However after only staying in the hospital for half a day, Huang returned to work. "I didn't think too much. I just thought that if I was in the hospital, and couldn't come back for a while, what will my students do?" Huang said.

One day Huang came to school early in the morning as usual. To his surprise, he didn't see a student in the classroom. When class time arrived, Huang felt a little paniced. It was a situation that he had never encountered before.

"I heard from other teachers that Mr. Huang had a very serious disease. He did not go to see a doctor because he considered that we were in an important period and he couldn't leave. Mr. Huang is the best teacher that I've met. I don't want anything happened to him. We think that if we don't go to class, he may go to see a doctor," Huang's student Xiaowu said tearfully.

In spite of his illness Huang clung tenaciously to teaching for the sake of his students. The students finally went on strike for the heath of their teacher. "If he doesn't leave for treatment, we will never go to his class," said Huang's students.

Hearing the story Sichuan Huaxi Liver Disease Research Institute held a consultation for Huang and also subsidized his subsequent treatment costs in the hospital.
