The prosperity of Asia requires the joint efforts of all the Asian countries. China proposes the Belt and Road initiative, hoping to work together with countries along the Silk Road to deal with common challenges and achieve joint development and realize the rejuvenation of this ancient Silk Road, said Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, at the Asian Political Parties' Special Conference on the Silk Road that opens Wednesday in Beijing.

China hopes to establish win-win cooperation with countries along the Silk Road and enhance the strategic coordination of different countries. "China is willing to further explore the market potential as well as boost investment and consumption, create new demand and employment in order to promote the regional exchanges and integration." said Liu Yunshan, when delivering the keynote speech at the conference.

The theme of this conference, which is held from Oct. 14 to 16, is “New Vision of the Silk Road, Actions for Common Development." Members of over 60 political parties and organizations from more than 30 countries have participated in this special conference.

"Silk Road is synonymous with peace, openness, inclusion and mutual understanding. All the countries alongside will benefit from it. This proposal shows China's determination in boosting the interconnection of countries and the exchange among the people. The rejuvenation of the Silk Road not only benefits the world peace but also contributes to the international exchanges.” said Hun Sen, President of Cambodian People's Party and Prime Minister of Cambodia.

"The Silk Road Initiative, quite ambitious as it is, covers a geographical region that stretches from East Asia to Europe, seeking to create a mutually beneficial framework, connecting the vibrant East Asia economic circle at one end and the European economic circle at the other. This will create a win-win situation for all countries involved and countries with different political, socio-economic and cultural background-- promoting peace and economic development. Above all, it entails the practical application of connectivity." said Nicos Anastasiades, President of Cyprus.

In 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Initiative to promote connectivity, cooperation and common prosperity along the ancient land and maritime Silk Road trade routes.

The Belt and Road routes run through Asia, Europe and Africa, connecting the vibrant East Asia economic circle at one end and the developed European economic circle at the other, and encompassing countries with huge potential for economic development, according to an official publication by the Chinese government.

Meetings of business leaders and media organizations will also be held on the sidelines of the conference.
