A man using pliers, tweezers and scissors stole wing mirrors from four cars and left a piece of paper saying "Your wing mirrors are in my hands" on each vehicle. However, a police officer was around the corner when the man put a piece of paper on the fourth car.
Zhang Haoqian, a community policeman in Xi'an, in southwest China's Shaanxi province , was patrolling in his car when he saw a man with a messenger bag beside a car who became flustered on seeing the police car. Being aware of the abnormality, Zhang got out to inquire if anything was the matter, at which point the man pushed the policeman aside and ran away. The officer eventually managed to catch the man after a 2km chase.
In the man's bag, there were a pair of wing mirrors with one mirror broken, several tools used for removing mirrors and three pieces of paper all saying "Your wing mirrors are in my hands. Please add me on QQ (social media platform)."
Matching the mirrors with cars nearby, it was discovered that they belonged to two Mercedes, a Toyota off-road vehicle and an Audi.
One car owner whose mirrors had been stolen said he came to the police after he found a piece of paper on his car. Right below the words written by the thief, the police had added, "The thief has been caught. Please come to us to get your mirrors."
The police have recommended that owners of luxury vehicles should park them in parking lots to avoid such thefts.
