Armless boy Peng Chao, attended the semester opening ceremony for undergraduates in Sichuan University on Monday.
Peng Chao lost both arms at 6 in an accident, but he never yields to fate. He has overcome many unimaginable difficulties and learned to put on clothes, write, and use computer with feet. In the college entrance examination held in early June 2015, he held a pen with one foot and answered the questions on the paper. He scored 603 out of 750 in the examination and won an opportunity to get recruited by one of the top universities in China.
On the first day in college, many students helped the talented young boy. In many people's eyes, Peng Chao is just an ordinary college student who moves slowly. "He could manage almost everything in daily life," Huang Jinbo, his roommate said.
He can make the bed in two minutes and wash himself in 18 minutes. He also has lunch in the canteen with a spoon and finishes it in 30 minutes.
On the way to the ceremony, many students and parents wanted to take photos with Peng Chao. They knew him from the newspaper and admired him very much.
Peng Chao has a lot of plans in the four years' college life. To make better achievements in the science of law, he registered for "Wu Yuzhang Honors College of Sichuan University" (the best college in Sichuan University) and planned to join the debate team.
Peng Chao's dormitory is specially designed for him by Sichuan University, including the bed, desk, and toilet. Apart from desk and bed in Peng's dorm, the university specially made three sets of desks and chairs for Peng. The three sets of desks and chairs are placed in three different classrooms where Peng will study. Volunteers will help Peng with his daily life, according to Peng's tutor Yang Xiaofeng. Huang Jinbo is his only roommate. The school also leaves a bed for Peng Chao's father who looks after him.
Although the school offers many conveniences to Peng, it will not lower the standards of study requirements for Peng, said assistant president of Sichuan University Guo Yong. "We will not label Peng as a 'disabled' student," said Guo, "We will respect all the students. Everyone is equal."
"The university provides a lot of convenience for me. I will work hard to repay my school," Peng Chao said firmly.
