Abstracts of confessions of Japanese war criminal Kenzo Sugishita in English
On 3 February 1932: “At a village about eight kilometers south of Tianle Temple, Shanghai, the squadron gave the instruction to shoot all, resulting in the killing of an estimated number of 30 Chinese people”.
On 5 February 1932: Driven by “hatred towards the Chinese”, “decided to kill 100 people” “and ordered the subordinates to do the same”. “At the north end of a back alley of Fudan University in Jiangwan Township, Shanghai, I personally caught a child about seven years old, laid him on a stone, beat him to death with stones, and threw the dead body into the river nearby.”
On 19 February 1932: “Caught a child of about six years old escaping from the fire at Lujia Bridge, laid him on a stone in front of the door, beat him to death with stones, and threw the dead body into the burning house”.
On 25 February 1932: “In places around Jiangwan Township, Shanghai, threw bacteria...into a total of 21 wells”.
On 20 April 1932: “In the position about one kilometer south of Dachang Township, Shanghai...10 Chinese residents were brought by the division as imaginary enemies, ordered 60 subordinate soldiers in Platoon Two to shoot all of them dead with rifles and light machine guns”.
On 21 April 1932: “In a brothel in front of the cinema on the north side of Wusong Street, Shanghai, I threatened with a pistol and fired one shot before raping a 17-year-old woman”.
On 3 October 1937: When crossing the sandy river in Yaoshan Village, Hebei Province, “found a male camel-driver of about 15 years old”, and ordered the subordinate “to shoot him dead with a pistol”.
On 30 October 1937: “When invading Zanhuang County seat, Hebei Province, killed a Chinese man of about 30 by stabbing in his chest with my katana in a shop located in the street connecting Beiguan and the Great Temple”. Then “found two men aged around 40, I fired four shots in quick succession with my Type 14 pistol and killed them”.
On 5 November 1937: “In Songdeng Village, Xiyang County, Shanxi Province ... a Chinese man of about 50 ran from the west of the village”, and ordered the subordinate “to shoot him dead with a pistol”.
On 7 November 1937: “In Liupu Township, northwest to Yuci County, I asked two Chinese about their identities and shot them dead with my pistol”.
On 8 November 1937: At Longtian Village, Yuci County, because one of the companions was “suddenly injured, conducted a thorough search in the village and arrested seven villagers; one of them was sent to the division headquarters and the rest were tied to trees in a field about two kilometers north to the village; ordered two squadrons to kill them with rifles and pistols; I personally shot two of them dead with my pistol and stabbed them with my katana too”.
