ZHENGZHOU - Police in Central China's Luoyang city shot one dead and injured another after being violently assaulted during law enforcement on Saturday, the police said on Sunday morning.
Police officers received a report on Saturday afternoon that a dozen of people gathered at a construction site in the city and blocked construction vehicles amid disputes, said a statement of Luoyang city's public security bureau.
When police officers tried to make reconciliation, several raging people assaulted the police, said the statement. The officers fired two warning shots, and the mob tried to take their guns by force.
The statement said the police were forced to shoot dead one man surnamed Zhou and injured another man surnamed Sun, who is now hospitalized.
Luoyang police expressed regret over the casualties in the statement. An investigation is underway.
