When the intensely hot temperatures are baking most areas of China, the mountain wetland Nine Lakes area in Shennongjia, Hubei province, is still bathing in the cool wind. The Nine Lakes area has an average elevation of 1,700 meters and covers an area of 5,083 hectares with 1,645 hectares of wetland. Surrounded by mountains, nine lakes linking together by a creek form the largest and highest mountain wetland area in central China. In 2008, the project of Nine Lakes National Wetland Park was fully implemented. After years of ecological protective work, the Nine Lakes area now is in its best shape.
