Johannesburg, June 19 (People’s Daily Online) — Temperatures are taking a dip as children from Alexandra in Johannesburg, South Africa are able to keep warm with the donation from local Chinese community.
68 pupils from Bovet Primary School received packages with brand new school uniforms, shoes and stationaries on Friday, which worth R100,000 in total.
Among 1700 learners in Bovet Primary School, up to 400 of them can hardly afford school uniforms. They had to borrow worn-out uniforms from senior students who left the school, or had no choice but to wear casual outfit to attend classes.
“Thousands of Chinese living in Johannesburg are benefiting from the local economy. Meanwhile, they are also making contributions to the local community.” said Xinquan Mai, Consul from the Consulate General of China in Johannesburg.
Xinzhu Li, the initiator of the program, also known as the Chairman of All Africa Chinese Association for Peaceful Reunification of China, promised that this would be a steady project “We will work out a proper, sustainable plan to support these kids with a better environment to live and learn.” He told the children to study hard, and join them in building a better South Africa together.
