Lake Rakshastal(鬼湖拉昂错)
Lake Rakshastal [File photo]
Lake Rakshastal is located in the Tibet Autonomous Region. Also known as the "Ghost Lake", it literally means the "poisonous black lake" in the local language. It lies just west of Lake Manasarovar, the "Holy Lake," whose beauty attracts many tourists every year. But why is the Lake Rakshastal so unwelcome? The reason is probably that its salty water is undrinkable contrasting to the fresh water of Lake Manasarovar. There are no aquatic plants or fish inside the lake and very few plants around. Therefore, it is considered poisonous by locals.
What's even more frightening is that the outline of the lake looks like a sheet of human skin.
