As one of a series of exhibitions to celebrate the 90 anniversary of the Palace Museum, “Hundred years of light and shadow - special exhibition of the Forbidden City’s old photos” was opened in the Forbidden City Shenwu Gate. It is the first time for the Imperial Palace to exhibit its old photos after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Nearly 300 pieces of exhibits are shown in the exhibition space. The exhibition consists of four units: “Sunset of the Palace”, “A glimpse of historical figures”, “The industrial revolution” and “The newborn palace”, with the historical period of late Qing Dynasty and early era of the Republic of China as the connecting thread to reflect the historical crossing from “the Palace” to “the Museum”. People with tickets to the Forbidden City can visit the exhibition free of charge. The exhibition will last two months until July 17. 32 precious cultural relics will be exhibited for only one month.
