Three highlights of Xi’s visit to Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus

From May 7 to May 12, Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War in Moscow and visit Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus. This is an important diplomatic event of China in 2015, and People’s Daily presents you the three highlights of Xi's visit.

Highlight 1: China and Russia determine to safeguard the fruits of WWII victory with the international community

As the main Asian and European battlefields, China and Russia made great contributions to the victory in WWII. President Xi will attend the ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War in Moscow, reviewing the PLA soldiers at the Red Square military parade, presenting a bouquet to Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and meeting with Russian WWII veterans. The two countries will jointly hold a series of celebrations within bilateral or multilateral frameworks this year in order to remember history and martyrs, cherish peace and shape the future.

Highlights 2: All-around development of China-Russia relationship

Xi's visit to Russia will greatly promote the all-around development of China-Russia relationship. Top leaders of the two countries will reach new consensus on deepening political mutual trust, expanding all-around cooperation and effective collaboration in international affairs. Energy cooperation is a traditional key field of cooperation between the two countries. It will depend on the wisdom of entrepreneurs to find business opportunities in the cooperation document that China and Russia are about to sign on energy, aerospace, taxation, finance, investment and other fields.

Highlight 3: Connecting the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Eurasian Economic Union

The Eurasian Economic Union was established on January 1, 2015 and Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan are all its members. Xi first put forward the strategic initiative of One Road and One Belt in Kazakhstan in 2013. Right now, China and Kazakhstan have signed several ten billion USD worth of cooperation contracts. During Xi's visit to Russia, the two countries will discuss the cooperation between the Silk Road Economic Belt and Russia's trans Eurasia passageway and the development of the Eurasian Economic Union. When visiting Belarus, Xi will attend an economic and trade forum between local governments of the two countries and visit the China-Belarus industrial park, which is the largest cooperative project between the two sides.
