The file photos taken in August, 1945 shows U.S. veteran Joe Day reading English newspaper reporting on Japan's surrender in Zhijiang County, central China's Hunan Province. A museum in Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County of Hunan Province debuted 32 color photos on April 17, 2015 that documented Japan's surrender in the province in August 1945. They were among 223 photos of the Chinese Anti-Japanese War donated last November by Joe Day, a member of the Flying Tigers, the 1st American Volunteer Group formed in 1941 to help China drive out invading Japanese troops. On August 21-23, 1945, Japanese representatives fled to Zhijiang, handed over a map of Japanese troops deployed in China and signed a surrender memorandum. (Xinhua) |
