BEIJING, Oct. 8 -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Liu Yunshan on Wednesday met with an International Trade Union Confederation(ITUC) delegation, calling for more effort to protect workers' rights and interests.
Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, reviewed the increasing exchanges between the All China Federation of Trade Unions(ACFTU) and the Brussels-based ITUC, saying the topics of their dialogue have expanded.
Liu, also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, stressed the importance the CPC and the Chinese government have placed on the role of the Chinese trade unions and highlighted the great contributions the trade unions have made to reform, development and workers' rights.
Liu called for stronger collaboration between the ACFTU and the ITUC.
Sharan Burrow, general secretary of the ITUC, appreciated the progress China has made in seeking social development and workers' rights over the past 65 years and called for stronger partnership with the ACFTU under the APEC and G20 frameworks.
Burrow and her delegation will conclude their four-day China visit on Friday.
