MONROVIA, Aug. 12 -- A Chinese cargo plane bringing consignment of medical supplies to help Liberia in its fight to contain the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has touched down at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) outside the capital Monrovia.
The Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Zhang Yue, said on Monday the items which are donated to Liberia by the Peoples' Republic of China included disposal protective gears, disposable protective clothing, disposable gloves, and protective glasses among other medical supplies.
He said the gesture will benefit hospitals and medical clinics in the country, especially the epicenter counties like Lofa and Montserrado.
Ambassador Zhang Yue said the items are China's way of identifying with the people of Liberia at a difficult time in its history as it struggles to contain the deadly virus.
He said this is the second major assistance from China to Liberians since the outbreak of the Ebola virus in March.
The equipment and supplies come at a time when the country was "faced with logistic constraints to effectively address the problem facing the nation in containing the spread of Ebola," said Dorbor Jallah of the Ebola Taskforce.
