BEIJING, July 18 -- Former vice governor of south China's Hainan Province Ji Wenlin is under investigation for allegedly taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said in a statement Friday.

The SPP has taken coercive measures against him, according to the statement.

The news came after the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) announced on July 2 that Ji was stripped of Party membership for serious discipline and law violation .

"Investigations show that Ji took advantage of his posts to seek benefits for others, demanded and received a huge amount of bribes, and committed adultery," said the CCDI.

The State Council, or China's cabinet, approved a decision to dismiss Ji from public office, it added.
