BEIJING, June 26 -- China on Thursday voiced opposition to the U.S. State Department's remarks on Hong Kong, and reiterated that Hong Kong's political system is its internal affair.
"Hong Kong's political system is a domestic affairs in which other countries have no right to interfere," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying at a regular press briefing.
Hua made the remarks while commenting a statement by spokeswoman of the U.S. State Department Marie Harf, who said, "we do believe that the legitimacy of the chief executive will be greatly enhanced if the promise of universal suffrage is fulfilled and if the election provides the people of Hong Kong a genuine choice of candidates representative of the voters' will."
