ROME, March 6 -- China's Middle East Special Envoy Wu Sike on Thursday called on the international community to realize aid commitments for Libya while fully respecting the northern African country's sovereignty, independence and unity.
Wu made the remarks while addressing a ministerial conference in Italy on international aid for Libya.
Praising Libya's efforts and positive progress in pushing for political transition and economic reconstruction, Wu pledged support for a leading role of the United Nations in Libya's reconstruction.
China is dedicated to promotion of friendly cooperation with Libya in all fields, Wu said.
China has offered help in Libya's political transition and economic reconstruction within the radius of its capacity and is willing to continue to contribute to the process together with the international community, he said.
Also on Thursday, Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan met with Wu in Italy and both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties and the post-conflict reconstruction in Libya.
During the meeting, Zeidan thanked China for its assistance.
Zeidan said Libya values relations with China and is willing to reinforce cooperation with China in all fields, expressing hope that more Chinese firms will return to Libya soon to take part in the country's reconstruction.
Wu said China encourages Chinese enterprises to take part in Libya's reconstruction and is hoping to further China-Libya cooperation in all fields and promote a healthy, stable bilateral ties.
