TRIPOLI, Nov. 28 -- The Libyan and Italian defense ministers signed agreement on Thursday to use Italian unmanned aircraft for Libya in monitoring borders' activities in the south, according to the Italian Defense Ministry press office.

Libyan Defense Minster Abdullah Al-Thinni met his Italian counterpart Mario Mauro in the Italian capital of Rome on Thursday morning. As the official statement on the Italian Ministry of Defense's website reported, an agreement on training activities for Libyan personnel was also signed during the meeting.

Referring to the recent tragedies in the Mediterranean country, Mauro said "Borders secure and stable are essential for the proper management of migration flows and to protect the fundamental rights of the migrants themselves."

As part of a capacity development in the field of surveillance and maritime security, Italian government will embark Libyan officials on board the Italian naval units engaged in military operations "Mare Nostrum" to train them about the system Virtual Maritime Traffic Centre (V- RMTC).

The prime minister of the Libyan interim government Ali Zeidan met his counterpart last July in Rome to renew the Treaty of Friendship between Libya and Italy, including the Italian support to the Libyan military personnel to secure borders.
