KAMPONG CHAM, Cambodia, March 5-- Cambodia on Wednesday continued distributing China-donated relief items to some 3,088 families, who are victims of last year's flood, HIV/ AIDS patients, disabled people and orphans.
Cambodian Red Cross president Bun Rany, the wife of Prime Minister Hun Sen, and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Bu Jianguo handed over the items including rice, noodles, tins of sardines, clothes, mosquito nets, blankets, and cash gift to those vulnerable families.
The humanitarian goods are part of the 1 million U.S. dollars donation from the Chinese government to Cambodia in October for people who have faced hardships due to severe flooding last year.
Bun Rany, on behalf of the Cambodian people, expressed gratitude to the government and people of China for providing humanitarian aid to Cambodia whenever the country faced difficulties from natural disasters.
She said 1 million U.S. dollars donated from China was used to buy 2,000 tones of milled rice for vulnerable people. So far, about 580 tones have been donated to some 23,000 families in 11 provinces and distribution operations are still going on.
Ambassador Bu said China hoped that the relief items would help ease the hardships of those vulnerable people, promising that China would still continue assisting Cambodia in economic development and poverty reduction.
