BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng told a Japanese delegation on Friday that maintaining healthy and stable development of bilateral ties conforms to the fundamental interests of both peoples.
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remark during the meeting with a delegation of Japan Democratic Party politicians led by Yokomichi Takahiro, former speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan.
Yu said that China attaches great importance to developing relations with Japan; is willing to continue the contact between the two countries' parties, parliaments and peoples under the condition of abiding by the four political documents between China and Japan; and hopes to promote strategic and mutually-beneficial relations with Japan.
He noted that China and Japan are facing severe problems in their relations and China expects Japan to face up to history and reality; learn from history and plan for the future; adhere to the path of peaceful development; remove the obstacles ahead of bilateral ties; and bring their relationship back to the right track of development.
Yokomichi Takahiro said he worried about the severe situation of the two countries' relations, but he believed that the two peoples value Japan-China relations, which are the foundation of advancing bilateral ties.
He said the two sides need to properly address relevant disputes and differences according to the four political documents.
Wang Jiarui, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, also attended the meeting.
