BEIJING, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived Sunday in San Jose for a state visit to Costa Rica. The following are major events in China-Costa Rica relations:
June 1, 2007 -- China and Costa Rica established diplomatic relations.
October 2007 -- Then Costa Rican President Oscar Arias Sanchez paid a state visit to China. Agreements were signed to encourage and protect investments.
May 2008 -- Then Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu visited Costa Rica.
November 2008 -- Then Chinese President Hu Jintao paid a state visit to Costa Rica. A number of agreements on trade, financial, educational, technological cooperation were signed.
October 2009 -- Then Costa Rican Legislative Assembly President Francisco Antonio Pacheco visits China.
April 2010 -- China and Costa Rica signed a Free Trade Agreement, which became effective in August 2011.
August 2010 -- Then Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi visited Costa Rica.
October 2010 -- A group of high-level Costa Rican officials visited China and celebrated Costa Rica's national pavilion day at the Shanghai Expo.
August 2012 -- Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla paid a state visit to China.
December 2012 -- Jia Qinglin, then chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, visited Costa Rica.
