KATHMANDU, April 23 (Xinhua)-- Nepali President Ram BaranYadav on Tuesday expressed deep sadness over the loss of life and massive destruction caused by the earthquake that hit China's southwestern province of Sichuan on Saturday.
"I am deeply saddened at the news of big loss of life and property, injury of thousands of people and massive destruction caused by the earthquake,"Nepalese president said in a letter addressed to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
"At this hour of grief, on behalf of the people of Nepal and on my own, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to your excellency and through you to the people of China and members of the bereaved families,"the letter reads.
Likewise, chairman of the council of ministers of Nepal Khil Raj Regmi conveyed his deep condolences and sympathy for victims of the earthquake and expressed Nepali people and the government's solidarity and support to the government and the people of China.
Meanwhile, chairperson of Nepal-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rajesh Kaji Shrestha expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the recent earthquake in Sichuan province.
Chairperson of Nepal Workers'and Peasants'Party Narayan Man Bijukche, chairperson of Nepal Communist Party (United Marxist Leninist) and former prime minister of Nepal Jhala Nath Kanal expressed their sorrow over the devastation caused by the tremor which killed at least 102 people.
Speaking during an opening ceremony of a health camp in Bhaktapur, about 10 km east of the capital city on Saturday, Bijukchhe said Nepal experienced a big earthquake 20 years ago. Since China's leadership is effective, recovery will be quick.
