OSLO, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Ninety-seven Chinese fishermen have been rescued from a burning fishing vessel to the Norwegian factory trawler Juvel off the coast of Antarctica, the Norwegian TV channel NRK reported on Thursday.
Juvel was operating 55 km from Chile's research station Bernardo O'higgins, said the report.
The Chinese vessel Kai Xin, which caught fire, is not in danger of sinking as the weather is clear in the area, said the report.
The Chilean coast guard, which has been notified of the incident, would send a tugboat to tow the ill-fated trawler to a safe harbor, according to the report.
Several other ships are also in the vicinity and could provide assistance when called on.
The Juvel trawler is owned by the Norwegian company Olympic Shipping AS.
