More foreign leaders congratulate Xi on election as Chinese president

BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- More foreign leaders have congratulated Xi Jinping on his election as Chinese president.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, messages received Wednesday included those from Malaysian Supreme Head of State Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, Chilean President Sebastian Pinera, French President Francois Hollande, Romanian President Traian Basescu, Czech President Milos Zeman, Suriname President Desi Bouterse, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea Peter O'Neill, Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, leader of the Russia of Justice party and deputy chairman of the State Duma Nikolai Levichev, Mongolian People's Party Chairman Ulziisaikhan Enkhtuvshin, and leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukian.

Xi, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, was elected state president and chairman of China's Central Military Commission on March 14 at the plenary meeting of the first session of the 12th National People's Congress.
