BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and Thailand have pledged to deepen cooperation and further their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with Thai Senate Speaker Nikom Wairatpanij in Beijing on Wednesday.

Jia said the two countries have trusted and supported each other in the fields of politics, economy and trade for a long period. Comprehensive cultural exchanges have also been carried out.

The CPPCC chairman lauded Thailand for its adherence to the one-China policy, and its understanding and support on issues of concern to China.

"China will continue to attach significant importance to friendly cooperation between the two countries, and better fulfil the comprehensive strategic partnership, so as to bring the two peoples benefit," he added.

Nikom described Thailand and China as "family members," and expressed hope for more good-willed intercourse between the Senate of Thailand and the CPPCC, for the profound development of bilateral relations.
