ABUJA, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has won two outstanding recognition awards in Nigeria in two consecutive days as the best foreign construction firm operating in the west African nation.
The firm was adjudged winner in the "Best Construction Company Of The Year 2012" category of the Federal Capital Advancement Award (FCAA) at a ceremony held on Wednesday evening at the capital city Abuja. On Tuesday, CCECC had also bagged a merit award as the "Best Engineering Construction Company Of The Year 2012" at a gala and dinner award night organized by a major media organization in the country. Both events were graced by eminent Nigerians and top government officials at all levels.
"The Federal Capital Advancement Award is aimed at recognizing notable individuals and organizations who have contributed to the advancement of Nigeria's federal capital territory to a mega edifice that can be likened to major developed citizens in the world," said Akakabota Derick, chairman of the FCAA planning committee, while welcoming guests and recipients to the award ceremony.
"It is important to note that this award is not an exclusive preserve of Nigerians alone as it is being erroneously held in some quarters. On the contrary and as it is now obvious, foreign organizations which have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields of endeavor," said Derick.
Receiving the award on behalf of CCECC, Chang Weijun, a top member of the organization's management team in Nigeria said the award will encourage the Chinese company to do more developmental works in the future.
"Our company will take this award as an encouragement and we'll take this chance to encourage our staff to do more, toward providing quality infrastructure for the development of the country," he added.
Chang noted CCECC had been involved in community social responsibilities over the years, being the first company to respond to the flood which submerged southwestern state of Ogun by providing an overhead bridge linking several communities within a very short period.
CCECC, which began its operation in Nigeria since 1971, had successfully executed several engineering and construction contracts across the oil-rich country for decades. Having employed more than 10,000 local staff in the west African country, the Chinese firm currently handles the Abuja light rail project, among several other ongoing developmental projects in Nigeria.
