Air Mauritius to add one weekly flight to China's Shanghai

PORT-LOUIS, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Air Mauritius will add one more weekly flight to China's business hub Shanghai from Jan. 24, 2013, the national airline of Mauritius said in a statement on Friday, bringing to two weekly fights due to increased demand.

Both routes will carry connections to and from Reunion, Madagascar and South Africa, according to the statement.

Air Mauritius said the first flight to Shanghai, starting in July, 2011, has substantially stimulated demand from the Chinese market with a growth of 38.3 percent in the number of arrivals from China registered for the period from January to September 2012.

According to Tourism Minister Michael Sik Yuen, the number of Chinese tourists visited Mauritius between January and September of this year reached 15,430.

Air Mauritius added it will increase its capacity by 300 percent on this line using the A340. Maurice departures are scheduled on Thursdays at and Sundays while Shanghai departures are scheduled on Fridays and Mondays, respectively.
