Liu Daming, male, 19, is a senior middle school student in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province.
Liu suffered from a rare disease osteogenesis imperfecta, also called Brittle Bone Disease, when he was a little boy. He is only 1.4 meters tall and weighs 20 kilograms. In the 19 years, he has undergone 11 major surgeries, twice brush with death. His body is loaded with all kinds of screws, and his skin is covered with marks left by surgeries. Liu's desire for life and knowledge, as well as his deep thinking on the meaning of life have moved and inspired his peers, who call him "Our Hawking".
Liu was not knocked down by the disease in these years. He is getting stronger and studies hard. He loves writing, and sticks to it. He has become a spiritual leader in the school, and often delivers speeches to encourage his fellow students. He has great gratitude to the teachers, and what he talks most is to hope all the teachers have good health and live a happy life.
He returned to school after a major spinal reconstruction surgery in 2013. He finished writing his 175-thousand words autobiography "Mingyun Zhishang" (above the fate), in his spare time.
People's Publishing House has reached a publishing agreement with Liu, making him the youngest author of the publishing house.
Liu has won twelve national level literary awards, and has been invited to receive rewards in the Great Hall of People twice. Many works were published in national publications include Youth Literature.
His spirit has inspired a generation of young people. He is practicing the ideal of "Chinese Dream" with his soul and expressing the meaning of "alive" to the whole society.
