Every day, groups of farmers carrying heavy luggage leave homes for bigger cities in search of a better life for themselves or for their families. Most of them are backbones of their families, who are supposed to stay at homes; however, higher wages or better job opportunities in big cities has motivated them to go outside, so they abandon the agrarian life and leave their families behind in villages.

Reunion with beloved family members is a pipe dream for most of them who cannot go back to home often. Liu Jie, a photographer with Xinhua News Agency, has taken a number of photos for migrant workers with the life-size photos of their left-behind children placed on empty seats.

After these photos were exhibited in Beijing 798 Arts Zone and some websites, many people were touched because the stories from photos resonate with their experiences.
