Explosion hits Shanghai plant

SHANGHAI, June 23 (Xinhua) -- An explosion occurred at a chemical plant in east China's Shanghai Municipality midday Sunday, local firefighters said.

Authorities received a report about the explosion at 11:04 a.m. from the plant, which is located in the city's Pudong District. More than 50 fire trucks have been sent to the scene of the explosion.

The explosion is believed to have been caused by a chemical leak.

No casualties have been reported thus far.
