Most of Shanghai's famous universities have had their websites attacked by hackers, as student candidates and their parents choose majors via the universities' official websites at the end of this year's national college entrance examination, Shanghai Evening Post reported on Wednesday.

The newspaper quoted Qihu360, a leading Chinese company specializing in Internet security, as saying.

The average website security scores for domestic universities came in at about 55 points out of 100, while about two-thirds of the university websites failed in their security checks, according to Qihu360.

The official websites of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Fudan University were tampered with by hackers 25, 23 and 17 times respectively.

Hacking techniques mainly involve an SQL injection, which is a code injection technique that exploits security vulnerability in the application's software.

Since the beginning of June, hackers have attacked college websites 113 times per day on average, an increase of over 20 percent, compared with previous data.
