BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- A total of 611,580 infectious disease cases were reported on the Chinese mainland in April, resulting in 1,260 deaths, the National Health and Family Planning Commission said in a Friday statement.
A total of 327,876 Class B infectious disease cases were identified by the commission in April, of which 1,229 were fatal, the statement said.
Hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, dysentery and gonorrhea were the top five infectious diseases in this category, accounting for 93 percent of all Class B cases, the commission said.
Category C infectious diseases claimed 31 lives in April, with foot-and-mouth disease and mumps reported the most frequently, according to the statement.
No cases of Class A infectious diseases were reported, the commission said.
