A 13-year-old girl in Nandan county of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region killed her female classmate and dismembered the body because that classmate was more beautiful than her, a court ruled.
The Nandan people's court ordered the 13-year-old's parents to compensate the victim's family 108,000 yuan ($17,520), according to a report on www.Chinacourt.org on May 7.
According to the court's judgment, the 13-year-old, named Qin, was a sixth-grader in Renguang Elementary School in Nandan, in the same class as her victim, a 12-year-old named Zhou. Qin and Zhou were good friends and neighbors for a long time. But Qin was jealous of Zhou's popularity in class and hated that Zhou openly commented on Qin's weight and looks.
On the evening of April 10, 2012, at Qin's home, Qin hit Zhou's head from behind with a stool while Zhou was watching TV, knocking her out.
Fearing Zhou may report the incident, Qin used a cook chopper, a beer bottle, a paper-cutting knife and a pair of scissors to brutally kill Zhou.
Qin cut off Zhou's head and arms and put them into plastic bags. Zhou also cleaned the bloodstains at the scene of her crime.
The public security authority affirmed Qin guilty of voluntary manslaughter. Because she is not yet 14 years old, the minimum age of criminal liability in China, the public security authority decided to detain Qin for rehabilitation for three years.
Zhou's parents appealed the court's judgment. The Hechi city Intermediate People's Court upheld the original verdict.
