A Jiangsu Province man died in a local hospital Tuesday after he was repeatedly stabbed following a dispute with a motorcycle driver in Pudong New Area Monday, local media reported.
The victim, Wei Jiaqi, a single father, was returning home from a dinner with two friends in Gaoqiao town when a 28-year-old motorcyclist ran into him, according to a news report aired on Shanghai Television Station Tuesday.
Wei, who had been drinking at dinner, and the motorcyclist, surnamed Peng, from Shandong Province, started arguing. The argument soon escalated into a fight. At some point, Peng called up an accomplice, who arrived shortly later with a knife.
A witness surnamed Shen said that Wei was unarmed when he fought the accomplice, who stabbed him several times, according to the report.
Wei left behind a 15-year-old son, whom he was raising by himself.
Police have detained Peng, but have not found the accomplice, who fled before police arrived, said Ji Xiaoyi, a press officer with Pudong New Area police. The case remains under investigation.
