BEIJING, November 8 (ChinaMIl) -- The pentathlon team which represents the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to participate in the 60th World Military Pentathlon Championship of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) arrived in Rio de Janeiro, the event site in Brazil, on November 7.
The annual CISM World Military Pentathlon Championship is a significant arena during the peacetime for various countries to demonstrate the image and strength of their respective militaries.
According to records, the PLA pentathlon teams have won 17 championships in a row in the male group events and 12 consecutive championships in the female group events, having thus created a legend in the world military sports.
The 60th World Military Pentathlon Championship will kick off on November 11, Beijing time. Events of 200-meter large-caliber rifle shooting, 500-meter obstacle run, 50-meter obstacle swimming, precision throwing and distance throwing of grenades, 8-kilometer men's cross-country running (4-kilometer women's cross-country running), and obstacle relay running will be successively held in the following six days of competition.
The pentathlon institutes gold medals for six categories: male and female group events, individual man's and woman's events, as well as the male and female obstacle relay running events.
