BEIJING, July 4 (ChinaMil) -- The China-Russia maritime joint exercise codenamed "Maritime Joint Exercise 2013" will officially kick off in the waters of the Peter the Great Gulf in the Sea of Japan on July 5. According to Rear Admiral Yin Zhuo, a renowned military expert, the fire-control radars in this maritime joint exercise will use training frequencies instead of operation frequencies in order to prevent such electronic information as the operation frequencies of fire-control radars from being obtained by the U.S. and Japan.
Senior Captain Zhang Junshe, a researcher with the Naval Military Academic Research Institute under the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN), stated in an interview on July 2 that during the anti-submarine and air-defense drills in this China-Russia maritime joint military exercise, the warships from both sides will open their own radars, including the fire-control radar and the illumination radar. In addition, the missile-guidance radar and other radars as well as the sonar, photoelectric communication, electronic equipment, and others will also be used.
In regards to this issue, Yin Zhuo further explained that the fire-control radars opened by the warships in this exercise would use their training frequencies, because operation frequencies are improper to be used. They can be used only during actual combats. Since the aircraft from the U.S., Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and other countries will surely be active in the surrounding airspace collecting electronic information while the China-Russia maritime joint military exercise is being held, if the operational fire-control radars are all opened, their information will be obtained by the U.S., Japan and other countries.
The opening of the fire-control radar indicates that weapons will be used in the exercise regardless of whether the exercise is a live-fire exercise or not. As long as the fire-control radar is opened, it means that live ammunition attacks or simulated attacks are being carried out, which explains that all weapons are going to be operated in use during the exercise.
