BEIJING, May 21, (ChinaMil) -- The battlefield situation of a field confrontation drill, held by a regiment under the Guangzhou Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), slipped into a stalemate in mid-May. The Red Party lurked all night as the moment to discharge assault against an anonymous highland drew nearer. Corporal Liu Ya'min gently took down the dew-water collector from the tree branche next to him and turned open the valve of the collector. All the dew water collected overnight flowed into his water bottle, making it more than half-full.
The reporters noticed that every officer and man of the regiment had the same dew-water collector as Liu Ya'min used. It is composed of a single-side-opened big plastic bag and a cylinder-shaped container with a filter installed at the outlet. The dew-water collector can be installed on tree branches or used independently to trickle the collected water inside into a pool of water within the container.
"It's a tough situation for the field-stationed training and it's hard to make sure the supply of drinking water will be delivered in place. Self-reliant water supply is not only a survival capability but also a basic skill of fighting", Liu Ya'min told the reporters. The first thing to collect dew water is choosing a correct location. A largest volume of catchment can be obtained by installing the dew-water collector on lush tree leaves.
During the field-stationed training this year, the regiment included drinking water collection on battlefield into the training contents. No water wagons and no water dispensers are allowed in the field combat training. Instead, the individual dew-water collectors jointly developed by local enterprises are distributed to each individual soldier so that officers and men can find drink water on the battlefield.
