PLA Navy wins championship in 16th Turkey International Nautical Competition

BEIJING, May 13, (ChinaMil) -- A 6-mmeber team of the Naval University of Engineering of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) participated in the 16th Turkey International Nautical Competition held in Istanbul in northwest Turkey on behalf of the PLA Navy, won the championship with the highest total points and claimed two titles of four individual events.

Aiming to unite naval cadets from various countries to promote exchanges and friendship among various navies, The Turkish Naval Academy established the International Nautical Competition in 1998. It is held in April or May each year and contains four events, that is, sailing, swimming, seamanship race and life saving swim race.

The competition this year was participated in by teams from 13 countries including China, Britain, France, South Korea and Pakistan. The PLA Navy dispatched six competitors, who are all undergraduate midshipmen of the Naval University of Engineering of the PLA and four of them took part in such kind of international events for the first time.
