After the 16-day-long continuous open-sea training, the joint mobile taskforce under the South China Sea Fleet of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) would sail back to a naval port in Sanya in south China's Hainan province. Jiang Weilie, commander of the taskforce and commander of the South China Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy, granted an online special interview to the China Military Online and made an in-depth interpretation of the results achieved in the combat-readiness patrol and open-sea training of the joint mobile taskforce on April 1, 2013.
Reporter: How do you evaluate the results of the combat-readiness patrol and open-sea training of the joint mobile taskforce?
Jiang Weilie: The long-time open-sea training tested such tactics of the main combat troops as over-the-horizon long-range precision strike, air-defense and anti-missile operations, ship-aircraft coordinated anti-submarine operations, multi-dimensional landing, stealth infiltration and surveillance through a series of confrontation drills.
Reporter: How do you evaluate the normalized open-sea training carried out by the PLA Navy in recent years?
Jiang Weilie: Previously, open-sea training was carried out once every few years, and nowadays, several times every year. As for the next step, we will continue normalized open-sea training and further explore the methods of organizing open-sea confrontation training without the support of land-and-shore-based intelligence information, so as to effectively improve the troops' systematic combat capability based on information systems.
