Chang Wanquan, state councilor and minister of national defense of the People's Republic of China (PRC), held talks with Prince Khalid Bin Sultan, the visiting deputy minister of defense of Saudi Arabia, on April 2, 2013 in Beijing.
Chang Wanquan said that both China and Saudi Arabia enjoy a long history and a splendid culture, and the people of the two countries have time-honored friendly contacts. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the bilateral relations in various fields have seen rapid development as evidenced by the friendly cooperation in various fields on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, which reflects the political wisdom of leaders of the two countries and is in the interests of the people of the two countries.
The Chinese and Saudi Arabian militaries maintain long-term friendly and cooperative relations, and the relations have witnessed sustainable and stable development in recent years. The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Saudi Arabian side to expand the channels of exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries and promote the relations between the two militaries to a new high.
Khalid expressed that Saudi Arabia-China relations have been constantly strengthened with the development of the bilateral cooperation in economy and trade fields. The Saudi Arabian side is willing to work together with the Chinese side to constantly promote the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and the two militaries.
Li Andong, director of the Science and Technology Committee of the General Armaments Department (GAD) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and deputy director of the GAD of the PLA, and Yahya A. S. Alzaid, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to China, were present at the talks. Before the talks, Chang Wanquan held a welcome ceremony for Khalid and accompanied him to review the guard of honor of the three services of the PLA.
