The most decorated amateur boxer in Chinese history, Zou Shiming has won his first match of his first professional competition at the Cotai Arena in Macao.
The venue was specially decorated for the showdown, which was titled "Fists of Gold," in honour of the Olympic success. Zou’s rival is Mexico’s Eleazar Valenzuela. Both Zou and Valenzuela weighed in around 111 pounds, just under the 112 pound flyweight limit.
Zou is widely regarded as one of the trailblazers of Chinese boxing. He won two consecutive Olympic gold medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the 2012 games in London in the Light flyweight division. He is the first and only Chinese to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing.
