After the strenuous work by the troop units of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Chinese People's Armed Police Force (APF) stationed in Tibet Autonomous Region, a two-way life-saving road stretching from Sibu Village of Zhaxigang Township of Maizhokunggar County to the rescue field in the Zeri Mountain was completed at 10:00 on April 1, 2013. The road, 5 kilometers long and 6.2 meters wide averagely, has been fully open to vehicles and large machinery. The disaster-relief headquarters redeployed the rescue troops to prevent the outbreak of major epidemics after the natural disaster in the area.
According to Li Suzhi, deputy commander of the Tibet Military Command (MC) of the PLA and director of the General Hospital of the Tibet MC of the PLA, the landslides changed the local environment in a short time and polluted the water sources, and as the rescue time went by, post-disaster epidemics were very likely to break out.
Since the morning of April 1, the disaster-relief headquarters have organized professional forces to disinfect the rescue field and densely populated places around the disaster area, and test and purify the local water sources, especially the drinking water sources.
