BEIJING, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Zhang Dejiang has urged members of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee to foster a habit of study in order to improve their work competency.
Zhang, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, made the remarks Monday when presiding over a lecture for members of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.
Monday's lectures focused on the systems and regulations of the NPC Standing Committee, China's law system, the NPC Standing Committee's legislation and supervision work -- all basic knowledge needed for members to competently fulfil their duties.
"Members should select key fields and expand the scope for their study. They should strengthen the study of political theories and laws... while learning from books, experts, practices and the people," Zhang said.
According to Zhang, such themed lectures should be continued long term with more attractive and specific content.
The 12th NPC Standing Committee will convene a bimonthly session between April 23 and 25.
