Unlike previous events, this year´s Shanghai Fashion Week has been more about an avant-garde and creative edge, with the key words being "next generation". Designers both new and old are striving to fill the runway with audacious and vigorous looks for their 2014 Spring/Summer collections.
The broad-shouldered look is definitely an eye-catcher at this fashion extravaganza in Shanghai. The designs show a strong feminine look, and none of the designers are holding back on their concepts, or the fabrics.
"I’m showcasing our traditional culture and ethnic characteristics. Fashion week brings us a lot of surprises and offers a stage to shine on," said Sun Zhaonian, student in Donghua University.
By choosing more practical fabrics for sports wear, the designers are able to bring the street and sporty style to a new level---where fashion and comfort get along just fine.
Also in the mix are fairylike designs. Inspired by classic ballet, designers carefully incorporate the elegance and grace of the dance into their designs for wedding gowns.
As for swimsuits and lingerie, most designers have chosen bold bright colors for next spring and summer.
The mix and match of lace lingerie and beach wear makes the look even more dramatic and energetic.
"I think it’s very important, and in the future it’s going to be more and more important," designer Renato Nucci said.
Shanghai Fashion Week has always been a great stage for domestic designers, whose brands are contributing 40% of the runway shows this fall.
